When you think about it, buildings are one of humanity’s greatest inventions. Where else — besides the interior of a modern building — can we tailor the environment to make groups of people feel comfortable, safe, and at peace?
Inside a building we control the temperature and humidity of the air, the amount and the texture of the light, and the paths people take through the building, at least to some extent. Inside a building we can also shape the way sound travels, allowing us to minimize monotonous background noises while enhancing the sounds we want to hear — sounds like conversations or music.
Since 2009, FSorb panels have offered an excellent option to shape indoor audio environments. Unlike other sound absorption panels, FSorb panels shape a building’s sound experience without compromising other aspects of its interior atmosphere. That means FSorb panels release no toxic VOC or synthetic particles. That means FSorb panels free interior designers from the one-size-fits-all uniformity that other sound panels tend to create.
Instead, FSorb panels enhance the other aspects of the building’s indoor aesthetic while simultaneously providing the best sound shaping in the market. This flexibility and customization lets architects, contractors, and interior designers make the choices.
Why Size Matters: ½-Inch vs 1-Inch vs 2-Inch Panels
One of the key choices contractors and designers make is choosing the correct FSorb panel thickness for their space’s specific needs. Each of our three thickness choices works best for different applications:
½-inch panels: These are ideal for offices, higher education classrooms, and retail spaces — and as a tack panel. Our ½-inch panels provide a Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC) of 0.50 on a scale of 0 to 1.
1-inch panels: Our most popular product, these panels offer an abundance of absorption (NRC of 0.70) for a low price. Industrial and manufacturing spaces, gymnasiums, offices, restaurants, and K-12 schools can exceed their goals with these panels.
2-inch panels: Our thickest panels offer the highest level of absorption (NRC of 1.05), making them ideal for auditoriums, studios, and manufacturing settings with high levels of noise.
More About ½-inch FSorb Panels
Most sound panel manufacturers offer a 9-mm (or ⅜-inch thick) panel that provides a Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC) of 0.35. FSorb’s ½-inch panel exceeds this minimum standard. FSorb’s ½-inch panel is actually 13 mm, which is slightly thicker than ½-inch, and it creates an NRC of 0.50 to 0.55.
Our ½-inch products can be shaped in a variety of ways, including Silentline Baffles, Quietgrid Clouds, Serenicloud Suspended Clouds, Shikiri Screens, and Tairu Tiles. Shaped patterns can increase NRC. For example, a simple Silentline Baffle offers an NRC of 0.75, while a Silentline Dimensional Baffle in the Box shape increases the NRC to 1.30.
More About 1-inch FSorb Panels
FSorb 1-inch panels cover 80 percent of all acoustic applications that a building’s interior could experience. With a full frequency NRC of 0.70 in a surface mounted setting, this panel is a workhorse, especially considering its low price point.
Even as they excel at absorbing a wide variety of frequency ranges, our 1-inch panels still specialize in managing vocal ranges, making them ideal for industrial and manufacturing settings, gymnasiums, natatoriums, busy offices, schools, universities, and restaurants.
More About 2-inch FSorb Panels
FSorb 2-inch panels exceed expectations with an NRC of 1.05 in the surface mounted application. Within the vocal frequency ranges, the 2-inch panel absorbs even more, reaching an NRC of 1.15.
Because of their exceptional performance, 2-inch panels work well in spaces with unique noise mitigation requirements. They also excel in spaces where designers crave efficiency — for example, where they need to cover less surface area while still achieving maximal absorption. Naturally, any place with consistently loud noise — heavy industrial settings or large gathering places — benefit from FSorb’s 2-inch panel.
At Any Thickness, FSorb Panels Equal Value
From the inside out, we engineer all of our FSorb panels to generate value as they absorb sound. Along with acoustical absorption, here are some of the values that FSorb panels create:
The Value of Peaceful Productivity
By calming chaotic and unnatural soundscapes, FSorb panels promote mental well being for anyone who occupies or passes through a building. When people work in more peaceful environments, they tend to be more productive, less distracted, and better focused.
The Value of Climate Consciousness
FSorb panels reuse reclaimed plastic products that would otherwise clutter up landfills or jeopardize ocean health. The panels are also recyclable.
The Value of Economic Development
We manufacture all FSorb panels in the United States, in our Woodinville, WA facility. This creates domestic jobs, and it helps us ensure we’re providing the best quality in the marketplace.
The Value of Convenience
FSorb panels integrate seamlessly with standard building materials. They’re also code compliant and easy to buy with fast shipping. Orders with our standard colors and sizes can usually arrive anywhere in North America within one week. This helps shorten building schedules.
The Value of Better Health
FSorb panels do not contain ozone depleting chemicals and are not classified as a hazardous air pollutant. Our panels do not emit volatile organic particles (VOCs). They’re also free from dangerous synthetic particles since they do not rely on paints, coatings, adhesives, or sealants.
The Value of Cost Effectiveness
Doug Bixel, founder of FSorb, sustains a passion for creating the best building products as efficiently as possible. This helps FSorb panels remain cost-efficient even as they outperform the competition.
The Value of Thoughtfulness
Every square inch of every FSorb panel has been carefully thought out before it ships to your project site. We look for ways to make FSorb panels stronger, lighter, and easier to install while staying committed to providing the best sound absorption in the market. You can see this commitment to innovation in FSorb’s ten different patents, which cover various applications and designs. Several more patents are currently in the pipeline.
At Any Thickness: FSorb Creates the Value of Flexibility
FSorb panels come in 24 different colors, and they can be built into shapes and patterns to enhance any designer’s vision for interior spaces. As today’s builders embrace new designs and new levels of customization, FSorb panels generate more customizable choices for builders and designers to incorporate.
By their nature, FSorb panels allow endless customization and flexibility. Installers can cut, shape, screen print, and inlay other FSorb colors. They can also hang panels to your specific design choices while also offering examples to help generate ideas.
If you can’t find the perfect fit, contact us for samples to try out your own customization ideas for that one-of-a-kind look only you can envision. Since FSorb panels are available in three distinct thicknesses — which generate different levels of noise absorption — design choices never have to compromise performance.
